BCA Green Mark certification is often seen as the finish line of a building's sustainability journey. However, for many facilities, this is just the starting point of a much longer challenge. Studies show that buildings frequently experience a decline in energy efficiency after certification, driven by equipment aging, shifting usage patterns, inconsistent maintenance, and operational drift from original design intent. This gap quietly erodes the very savings that certification was meant to lock in, increasing both energy consumption and operating costs over time.

Closing this gap requires more than compliance, it requires the right combination of operational discipline and the right technology infrastructure to sustain performance for the long term.

This SGBC Learning Journey, powered by SGBC Member Delta Electronics, will explore both sides of this challenge: how building owners and Certified Energy Managers can proactively manage the performance gap through recommissioning, continuous monitoring, and occupant engagement and how emerging power technologies like Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC) are redefining what's possible for on-site energy efficiency, reliability, and emissions reduction.
